- Check the estimated WAV size in the settings: it will be about ten times larger than the MP3.
- Click “Convert to WAV” and wait while each MP3 is processed.
- Download each WAV on its own, or all your converted MP3 files in a ZIP.
From MP3 to WAV: what to expect
The resulting WAV is the decoded MP3 saved without compression (16-bit PCM): it sounds the same as the MP3, not better, because the quality lost when the MP3 was made cannot be recovered. In exchange, any editor can open it, and it takes up about 10 times more space: close to 10 MB per minute in stereo at 44.1 kHz.
Are my files uploaded?
No. ShiftAny Audio processes your audio directly on your device: this tool runs in your browser and never sends your files to any server.
Limits and metadata
ShiftAny sets no duration or size limits: the real ceiling is your device’s memory, because the audio is decompressed to be processed and an hour of stereo takes more than 1 GB. With very long files, we warn you before loading them. The new file contains only the audio: tags (title, artist, cover art) are not copied.
Frequently asked questions
Does converting MP3 to WAV improve the quality?
No. A WAV made from an MP3 keeps exactly what was already in the MP3. It is useful for editing, or for programs that cannot read MP3, not for gaining quality.
Why is the WAV so large?
Because it is not compressed: it stores 44,100 samples per second per channel, at 2 bytes each.
How is this different from “FLAC to WAV”?
Both give you a WAV, but from an MP3 it carries the loss the MP3 already had; from a FLAC, the original audio comes out intact. If you have the FLAC, use “FLAC to WAV”.
